Kumulus Water , a Tunisian water WaterTech startup, has raised $3.5 million in a seed funding round to scale its atmospheric water generation (AWG) technology.
The round saw participation from Bpifrance (through France 2030 SGPI and le-de-France Region), PlusVC, Khalys Venture, Flat6Labs, several European and North African family offices, and European bottled water leader Spadel.
Were proud to build a solution that brings real impact to people who need it most, said Iheb Triki, co-founder and CEO of Kumulus Water. This funding will help us scale more quickly and reach regions where traditional infrastructure cannot.
The funding will accelerate the development of its innovative, off-grid water solutions and support expansion into strategic international markets, including France, Spain, and Saudi Arabia.
This infusion of capital will be instrumental in launching Kumulus Boks, a new product line of high-capacity, off-grid water units tailored for industrial and community-scale applications. These larger units aim to meet the needs of organisations, schools, humanitarian efforts, and public infrastructure, especially in regions facing acute water shortages.
Founded in 2021 by Iheb Triki and Mohamed Ali Abid, Kumulus Water develops compact, solar-powered atmospheric water generators that extract humidity from the air to produce clean, drinkable water. These units are designed to operate independently of existing water or power infrastructure, making them especially valuable in remote, arid, or climate-stressed regions.
Kumulus Waters mission addresses one of the 21st centurys most pressing challenges: access to clean water. According to the UN, over 2 billion people worldwide lack safe drinking water at home, a crisis worsened by climate change, population growth, and environmental degradation.
Kumulus AWG devices function efficiently in diverse climates, using renewable energy sources like solar power to generate up to 30 litres of water per day, depending on humidity and temperature. The solution has already seen successful deployments in schools, eco-hotels, refugee camps, and rural communities across Tunisia, Morocco, Italy, and Qatar.
Kumulus Water has gained recognition for its role in the green technology and climate resilience sectors. In addition to being incubated by Flat6Labs Tunis, the startup has received awards and nominations in European sustainability competitions and is part of a growing movement of African-led climate innovations.
The expansion into markets like France and Spain signals the companys transition from regional innovator to global player, especially as Europe and the Middle East experience more frequent droughts and water insecurity due to rising temperatures.
As Kumulus Water gears up for its next phase of growth, it represents a broader trend of African startups leading the charge in climate tech, offering scalable, impact-driven solutions from the continent to the world.
