Multiple Saskatoon-and-area athletes competed at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Ottawa over the August long weekend, with several topping the podium.

In the senior womens 400-metre race, Olympian Savannah Sutherland captured gold with a time of 51.51 seconds, while Tayen Werner did the same in the U20 womens 400m with a time of 53.46 seconds.

Finishing off womens results, Kaitlyn Harrison placed first in the 1,500m senior qualifying with a time of 4:25.50.

Meanwhile, in mens track results, Michael Hussey finished first in the U20 800m at 1:49.23, while Brendan Cote-Williamson won the T47 Para ambulatory 200m with a time of 23.16.

In mens field events, Maitlan Knoke won gold twice with a throw of 27.99m in the F55 discus as well as 9.72m in the F55 shot put, while Nathan Pinno threw a distance of 18.64m to capture gold in the U20 shot put, setting a Saskatchewan record in the process.

On the road Sunday, the Saskatchewan Rattlers recorded their sixth win of the Canadian Elite Baseball League season with a narrow 90-88 victory over the Edmonton Stingers.

Jordan Bowden led the Rattlers with 28 points, including the game-winning three-pointer, while adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Devonte Bandoo was the player of the game with 23 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal while shooting a team-best 64 per cent from the field. Tevian Jones chipped in with 18 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Meanwhile on Friday, the Rattlers fell 98-89 to the Winnipeg Sea Bears despite a 76-70 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In that game, Bowden once again led the team with 24 points.

Next action for the Rattlers is Wednesday when they play host to the Stingers. Game-time is 7:30 p.m. at SaskTel Centre. Theyll wrap up their 2025 campaign with three games by next weekend, finishing Sunday afternoon (5 p.m., SaskTel Centre) against the Brampton Honey Badgers.

After going undefeated throughout the Canadian Womens Fastpitch Championship over the weekend in Saskatoon, the Carnduff Southeast Steelers capped off the event with a 6-0 shutout win over Team Quebec in the final to hoist the trophy.

The tournament also featured the Saskatoon Stealth, Saskatoon Prairie Pirates and Saskatoon Tigers.
