The Nigerian Bar Association NBA, Udu Branch, has successfully apprehended and secured the conviction of a notorious impersonator, Alex Young Vweta Egone, who had been fraudulently parading himself as a legal practitioner within Udu and its environs.
Following a series of reports about Egones unlawful activities, members of the Udu Branch Committee on the Prohibition of Unlawful Practice of Law Without License swung into action. BarristerNG gathered that he was apprehended on the 2nd of August, 2025 by D.O Omage Esq, Chairman of the Committee, in the company of G.O Fenfe Esq and Odogun Stanley Esq. Immediately after the arrest he was handed over to the Nigeria Police at the Ovwian Division in Udu, Delta State.
Upon investigation, both the NBA committee and the police discovered several incriminating items in his possession. These included multiple Deeds of Conveyance, forged legal documents, and petitions addressed to various police commands, all authored while impersonating a lawyer. Sh@ckingly, he was also found with a forged NBA stamp and seal, bearing his name alongside the Supreme Court enrollment number of a genuine lawyer, as well as an ink pad and custom-made stamp with his name.
Egone was arraigned on August 5, 2025, at Magistrate Court 1, Otor-Udu, where he pleaded guilty to all charges bordering on impersonation and forgery. The NBA Udu Branch was fully represented in court by D.O Omage Esq and G.O Fenfe Esq.
Delivering judgment, the Magistrate found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to One and half years imprisonment on each of the first three counts, and 2 years imprisonment on the fourth count, with the court ordering that the sentences run consecutively.
Egone has since been transferred to the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Warri, where he will serve his term.
In a statement made available to BarristerNG on Tuesday, D.O Omage Esq, Chairman of the Committee on the Prohibition of Unlawful Practice of Law Without License, reaffirmed the NBA Udu Branchs commitment to preserving the integrity of the legal profession and protecting the public from fraudsters posing as lawyers.
