- Mythical Games has partnered with FIFA to develop a web3 game for mobile devices
- Known as “FIFA Rivals” it will be available for gamers on iOS and Android devices
- The game will be free to play and is scheduled to be released next year
Blockchain gaming firm Mythical Games has partnered with football federation FIFA to create a web3 game for players using Android and iOS-powered devices. Dubbed “FIFA Rivals,” the game will be free to play and available to the public in the second half of 2025. The game revolves around creating a team and winning competitions, just like with actual FIFA-arranged competitions like the World Cup, which will help popularize web3 gaming.
It’s the Next Era of Football Gaming
According to Mythical Games, FIFA Rivals will be powered by the Mythos network and secured by Polkadot . The game’s X page describes FIFA Rival as “the next era of football gaming,” adding that it brings the “ultimate football experience in your hands.”
The game will also feature a marketplace to allow players to trade their favorite football stars. FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström commented on the partnership saying that it’ll help deepen football fans’ connection to the sport. Grafström added that the game is an addition to FIFA’s esports portfolio.
Mythical Games CEO John Linden said that the partnership is meant to set “new benchmarks” in the blockchain gaming space. Linden disclosed that there are plans to link FIFA Rivals with FIFA’s esports platform to open the game to a global audience.
FIFA Rivals To Bring Millions to Web3
Linden is confident that the game will attract millions of football fans into the web3 space considering that NFL Rivals has registered more than six million gamers despite having a smaller fan base compared to football.
The partnership adds to a growing number of firms collaborating to either create web3 games or enhance blockchain gaming. Oasys, for example, recently partnered with SBI Holdings to boost web3 gaming . In May, Solana collaborated with Google to push for the adoption of blockchain games.
With FIFA increasing its web3 gaming exploration, it’s to be seen whether other gaming federations will follow suit.
