Although Hugh Jackman returned for Deadpool & Wolverine and several of the original cast members of the X-Men franchise will appear in Avengers: Doomsday , Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said in a recent interview that the studio plans to recast the X-Men characters when the superhero team gets its own MCU movie.

In conversations with several trade publications, including Variety , Feige pointed to the Secret Wars comics from 2015 as the studios inspiration for a reset of the MCU.

Were utilizing that [story] not just to round out the stories weve been telling post-Endgame, just as importantly and you can look at the Secret Wars comics for where that takes you it very, very much sets us up for the future, Feige said.

Endgame, literally, was about endings. Secret Wars is about is about beginnings.

Ironheart (June 24, 2025)p
Ironheart will star Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams/Ironheart, a The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25, 2025)p WandaVision's Matt Shakman is helming the film, which we learned at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 is called The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The film will begin Phase 6 of the MCU, kicking off the final journey towards the end of The Multiverse Saga with Avengers: Doomsday (formerly Avengers: The Kang Dynasty) and Avengers: Secret Wars. First Steps stars Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing and Joseph Quinn as Human Torch. We also now know that Robert Downey, Jr. will be playing Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, though it is unclear if he will appear in The Fantastic 4: First Steps. (But come on, of course he will.)
Eyes of Wakanda Series (August 6, 2025)/p
Black Panther writer-director Ryan Coogler is slated to produce a Disney+ animated series focused on the wider world of Wakanda. It's unknown which Marvel characters will anchor the series, which will utilize 3D animation. Marvel Zombies (October 2025) p

The Hollywood trades have reported that Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton will executive-produce a Wonder Man series for Disney+, with Andrew Guest (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community, 30 Rock) serving as head writer. Wonder Man's real name is Simon Williams, and he has close ties to the Avengers and Vision in the comics. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, Watchmen) will play the title character, while Sir Ben Kingsley will reprise his role as Trevor Slattery.

Feige clarified that the MCUs first X-Men movie , to be directed by Thunderbolts Jake Schreier , will be a reset, not a reboot of the MCU.

Reboot is a scary word, Feige said. Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline were thinking along those lines. & X-Men is where that will happen next.

The X-Men movie will recast the iconic mutants and return the franchises focus to being on the young mutants attending Xaviers School for Gifted Youngsters.

They have been a place to tell stories about young people who feel different and who feel Other and who feel like they dont belong, Feige said. Thats the universal story of mutants, and that is where were going.
