Manchester United fans had plenty to say after the club made a late move for Benjamin Sesko, just as Newcastle were closing in on a deal.

Arsenals early interest in Sesko waned after signing Viktor Gyokeres. This allowed United and Newcastle to pursue the 22-year-old Slovenian forward.

Newcastle initially appeared to be in the lead, having made an offer worth 75m plus an additional 5m in add-ons for Sesko.

RB Leipzig turned down that bid, but Newcastle responded with an improved offer of at least 80m. Even so, nothing was agreed upon immediately.

The Red Devils have now entered the race more seriously, submitting their own bid as they look to beat Newcastle to his signature.

Manchester United have made their move for Benjamin Sesko, submitting an opening bid of 75m plus 10m in add-ons, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

United supporters on X, formerly Twitter, believe the club wouldnt have moved forward without some confidence in the players interest.

One fan commented: Im a very patient man. This falls within the valuation for when a special club comes through. It is below what Newcastle sent across last night, too. If Sesko makes a decision and picks United as the club he favours, theyd have to accept this.

Another added: The offer from Manchester United for Sesko changes everything. Note: Newcastle offered +90m and Man United went with 85m. Looks like Sesko has chosen United, and [United] has used that to send a lower offer. My take? 50 [per cent] chance. Depending on RBs answer.

A third said: This has been placed in consultation with all parties involved on the players side. Leipzig is the barrier now. I want to believe United have done their due diligence before placing this bid. Its now between Sesko and Leipzig, not United and Newcastle.

Youd imagine with that Sesko bid that United have everything squared off with the agent and player now, a fourth Red Devils supporter claimed.

United made their first approach for Sesko on Tuesday, with the club looking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

The Athletic reports that Leipzig hadnt responded to Uniteds bid at the time, and it followed Newcastles second attempt to sign the striker.

Newcastle had increased their offer to 80m including add-ons last week, maintaining a long-standing interest in the former Arsenal target despite Uniteds growing involvement.

Seskos contract with Leipzig runs until 2029, but he reportedly wants a move to Old Trafford amid the battle between Newcastle and the Red Devils.
