Kyle MacLachlan had his reasons for turning down a chance to reprise his iconic role on Sex and the City as Charlotte Yorks sexually challenged ex-husband, Trey MacDougal.

HBOs iconic Sex and the City debuted on June 6, 1998, chronicling the lives, trysts and relationships of friends Charlotte, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) and Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon) as they lived and loved in New York City. The show ran for six seasons before its series finale aired on February 22, 2004.

After two subsequent Sex and the City films, three of the four main characters returned for the current spinoff, And Just Like That, in December 2021. While Samantha Jones is featured in the show via text messages and one brief onscreen cameo in season 2, Cattrall did not return to the screen amid her ongoing feud with costar Parker.

The show did find a way to include Samantha Jones who is now living in Paris, to explain Cattralls absence from the series in the most recent episode of And Just Like That. On the Thursday, June 26, episode of the spinoff, Carrie reaches out to Samantha via text for intel from across the pond on her new grumpy downstairs neighbor who just so happens to be a fellow writer Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake).
