The big-bronc event returned last weekend for its second year and an expanded version that boosted attendance for a reborn local tradition.

Hosted at Trimble Farms Cattle Co. in partnership with Rawhide Rodeo Company, the event featured non-stop action with all the classic rodeo thrills from bronc and bull riding to barrel racing, steer wrestling, and team roping.

Its so cool to have everybody come to your property and be so enthused and excited, said Adam Trimble, owner of Trimble Farms Cattle Co. We are very happy how everything went this year.

After the Sun Parlour Rodeo ended its 20-year run in 2023, Trimble and family stepped up to keep the spirit of local rodeo alive, but opted to expand it to a three-day event.

Riders from across Canada and the United States competed for more than $20,000 in prize money, making the Kingsville stop a key event on the rodeo professional circuit.

Despite a soggy start, fans drawn from across Essex County and beyond packed the stands as conditions improved Saturday, creating an electric atmosphere as cowboys and cowgirls battled for the top spot.

Families wandered past rows of vendors selling rodeo gear, food, and local crafts before settling in to watch the high-adrenaline performances.

You get to see your friends and your family that you dont get to see, and then once a year, the cowboys roll in, Trimble said. It means a lot to us.

Its like one big family.

Entertainment extended beyond the arena with live music including performances by Slim Pickerel, Higgis Country Music and The Tipsy Two and kids activities, and plenty of cowboy culture on display.

Organizers extended this years event to three days to accommodate growing crowds a move that appeared to pay off, even with a rainy start to Saturday.

Trimble said attendance was up big time, with Saturday sold out and Friday and Sunday near capacity.

A big change this year was opening up the entire property under the events liquor licence a game changer, said Trimble, who compared it to a hockey game where fans can grab a beer and move freely, creating a more inclusive event.

I think everybody would agree that was awesome.

Proceeds from this years event will support local charities, including the Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association and the Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwestern Ontario.
