In a bold move to strengthen food security and enhance agricultural productivity, the Gombe state government has kicked off the immediate sale and distribution of fertilisers to farmers across all 114 wards in the state.

Speaking during the official launch of the exercise in Gombe, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, Mr. Barnabas Malle, announced that Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has given directive for the timely and equitable distribution of the farm inputs to reach every part of the states eleven local government areas.

Mr. Malle stated that the fertilisers must reach the hands of real farmers at the grassroots without any form of diversion.

 The governor has made it clear that there should be  no delays, no shortcuts. These fertilisers must go directly to those who till the soil, he said.

He further stated that a total of 10,000 metric tonnes, equivalent to 200,000 bags, of high-grade fertilisers are being distributed and described the product as one of the finest-quality fertilisers produced locally, adding that its timely deployment would give farmers a strong head start in this years cropping season.

To ensure seamless access, the commissioner stated that the fertilisers would be transported to every local government and down to polling unit levels, in strict compliance with the governors instruction.

This distribution is a lifeline for our farmers. It will not only improve yields but also stimulate economic activity in our rural communities, Malle stated confidently.

In a statement weekend, the convener of ATT, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu noted that, The newly appointed chairman of the NUC Governing Board, Emeritus Prof Olu Aina, has pledged to support the transformation of university education in Nigeria.

We are excited that Prof. Aina, who was appointed by President Tinubu has shown great commitment to working with the NUC management and staff to achieve the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He has promised to focus his priority areas for the NUC, in studying the statutory mandate and responsibilities of NUC as a regulatory agency, analyzing the operations, performance, and impact of NUC vis-�-vis public opinion and expectations.

Prof. Aina  also outlined his priorities to aligning NUC with the Renewed Hope Agenda and targets for transforming and making Nigerian universities more competitive and better ranked globally. Studying the prevailing funding policy of universities and exploring feasible options to support adequate appropriation funding.
Revisiting the wisdom/legality of using TetFund money for take-off of new universities or as constituency projects and as well improving the working conditions of NUC Management and Staff.
