President John Dramani Mahama has announced a temporary ministerial change in response to the unfortunate demise of two cabinet ministers in a military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President’s spokesperson, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the current Minister for Finance, has been assigned the additional role of Minister for Defence, effective immediately.

Additionally, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, will now serve as acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology until further notice.

These adjustments come after the unexpected loss of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who tragically perished along with six others in the crash on August 6 in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

They were on their way to Obuasi for a government-related mission when the incident occurred.

This response is aimed at maintaining stability and continuity in essential areas of governance as the nation comes together to mourn these public servants.
