After spending 35 years working in one of the highest positions within U.S. security, former CIA officer Ralph Goff has shared his thoughts on the rising tension between Russia and the United States especially with President Donald Trump recently moving two nuclear submarines into strategic positions after a Russian official threatened the U.S. with war.Goff, now 72, worked as the CIAs chief of operations for Europe and Eurasia before retiring. He has now come forward with a chilling prediction about how things could end not just for this conflict, but possibly for Vladimir Putin himself. He explained that Putin should be less worried about America and more concerned with whats happening inside his own country. According to Goff, if Putin becomes a liability to Russias elite or to the countrys stability similar to how the Italian mafia used to remove any leader who became bad for business he could be taken out by people close to him. It wouldnt be a foreign attack. It would come from within.Goff pointed out that Putin still has influence and some loyalty among Russian oligarchs (the ultra-rich business class), but the war in Ukraine has severely damaged the country. The economic and human cost has been enormous, and such widespread destruction could turn even loyal allies against him.He compared Putins situation to that of Syrias former president Bashar al-Assad, who unexpectedly lost power in 2024. Goff said that Putin could face a similar sudden downfall a threat he never sees coming. It might not be the U.S. or NATO that ends Putins reign, but someone from within Russias own system. As tensions grow, Goff believes Putins biggest challenge isnt necessarily fighting Ukraine or staring down American submarines its maintaining loyalty at home. If his own people stop believing in him, or feel hes damaging their future, that could be the end of his leadership.Adding to the uncertainty are rumors about Putins health. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy even claimed earlier this year that Putin could die soon. Speculation continues to swirl about whether Putin is secretly battling cancer or Parkinsons. Goff also thinks theres reason to believe Putin is unwell, saying hes very concerned about his personal health, even scared of catching COVID.Putin has always been known for trying to appear strong and in control. But if his body is failing or if his inner circle loses faith in him, that could be more dangerous to him than any military enemy. In short, while world headlines talk about nuclear subs and global threats, Goff says the real danger to Putin might be closer to home right inside the Kremlin.
