Nigerias senior womens basketball team, DTigress have won a fifth consecutive FIBA Womens AfroBasket title, defeating Mali 7864 in the final at Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan on Sunday night.With the victory, DTigress becomes the first African team to win the tournament five times in a row. The win also marks their seventh overall AfroBasket title.
Since 2015, Nigeria have now won 29 consecutive AfroBasket matches.
The DTigress overcame a shaky start to defeat Mali 7864 in a thrilling encounter.The game began with Nigeria setting the pace early, but Mali quickly gained momentum to take the first quarter 2621. DTigress regrouped in the second quarter and mounted a strong response, outscoring their opponents 2015 to level the game at 4141 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, the defending champions stepped up their intensity and pulled ahead with another 2015 run, taking a five-point lead into the final stretch. Nigeria then dominated the fourth quarter 178, sealing a convincing 7864 win after a closely contested battle.
