The 2025 Caribbean Club Shield reaches its semi-final stage this evening at the Ato Boldon Stadium.
In the first semi-final, Group A winners Academy Eagles of the Turks and Caicos Islands face off against Group B champions and current tournament favourites, Moca FC of the Dominican Republic.
Group C winners and high-scoring Barbados champions Weymouth Wales will meet Group D winners, Club Franciscain of Martinique, in the second semi-final.
The major disappointment, however, is that neither of the host teamsAC Port of Spain nor Miscellaneous Police FCadvanced past the group stage.
With the Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football League ending nearly two months ago in May, both local sides looked sluggish in their opening matches.
AC Port of Spain sporting director Gilbert Bateau was pleased with, the results, but not the performance, as the Capital Boys scraped a 2-1 win over Scholars International of the Cayman Islands, despite creating several chances to score more.
Those missed opportunities proved costly, as they were later edged out by Franciscain FC of Martinique, who topped the group on superior goal difference.
AC Port of Spain did improve in their second match, eliminating defending CFU Club Shield champions Arnett Gardens of Jamaica with a convincing 4-1 win on Tuesday.
However, under the Swiss-style format used in the tournament, there was little room to recover from early setbacks.
Police FC also paid the price for a slow start, losing their opener 3-1 to Weymouth Wales before bouncing back to crush SCSA Eagles of Sint Maarten 6-1.
It was a kind of disappointing experience for us because we played in the CONCACAF (Caribbean Cup) last year, stated Police coach Todd Ryan.
Our aim was to get back there but with the Swiss format, you cant afford to drop points and we came out flat unfortunately for our first game and lost the game.
