Bg JOY ADARA, Abuja-
Nigerian music icon, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has issued a public apology to his fans and family following intense backlash over his claim that men are not naturally wired for monogamy.
In a viral video posted on Instagram on Wednesday from Abuja, the *African Queen* singer expressed regret for the embarrassment his comments caused.
The apology comes after his earlier statement on a podcast sparked widespread debate: A man is not built sexually to be with one woman. A man can love one woman, give her his heart, but its impossible for a man to sexually be with one woman only. Its the nature of a man.
The remarks triggered a social media frenzy, with some fans praising his candor while others slammed the statement as a harmful generalization.
In his apology video, 2Baba acknowledged the gravity of his words and their impact, saying, Yo man, I know I f**ked up with what I said. I really, really f**ked up more than I said, I know Im going to get cancelled for this. I know Im going to pay the price, a heavy price. Im going to face the consequences. You know, I said what I said. And I want people to understand my stance. But theres no excuse for that, you know. I own up to that.
He continued, expressing remorse for hurting his supporters and loved ones: I own up to the fact that I f**ked up, what I said hurt so many people; my fans, parents, and millions of people that look up to me. You know, like friends and people that know me, they know that this is not me. You know, this is not me. Im terribly sorry for allowing myself.
Addressing his family, he added, Im sorry to my wife, the love of my life, Natasha; you know, shes amazing; shes amazing, shes wonderful. Shes smart. You know, Im so sorry, also to my kids, man; you know the young people, they dont deserve this kind of thing that I put them into.
The apology has reignited discussions online, with fans and critics weighing in on the sincerity of his regret and the broader implications of his initial comments.
